Water quality in the Seim River in Sumy region deteriorates – Ministry of Environment.


Water Pollution in the Seim River
In the territory of Sumy region, water pollution in the Seim River has been recorded. The problematic area is located between the villages of Prudy and Mutin. Although the level of dissolved oxygen has increased, the chemical oxygen demand still exceeds the norm. The relevant information was provided by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.
«The worst indicators are recorded in the section Prudy – Mutin. The chemical oxygen demand has decreased by 29 units compared to the previous day and is 112 milligrams per cubic decimeter near Prudy, and 102 milligrams per cubic decimeter near Mutin. Dissolved oxygen has increased to 0.14-0.34 milligrams per cubic decimeter. Ammonium nitrogen is within the norm», – noted the ministry.
As for the water quality in other regions, the situation in Chernihiv region has significantly improved. In the Seim River exclusively near Baturyn, a slight excess of manganese was detected. But overall, the water quality in the Desna River meets the standards, including water intake points in Kyiv region.
Experts assure that treatment facilities can cope with the pollution and the quality of drinking water in household taps will not suffer. The government also assessed the environmental damage caused by this pollution of the Seim and Desna rivers.
