The CIA offers severance pay to laid-off employees
The Central Intelligence Agency of the United States is offering its employees the option to resign and receive compensation. According to The Wall Street Journal, the CIA is offering laid-off employees an eight-month severance pay. This will save the government billions of dollars.
Administration officials claim that up to 10% of federal employees may accept the severance offer. It is expected that layoffs will affect 5-10% of them.
«The CIA offered severance pay to all its employees on Tuesday, which, according to officials, is an attempt to align the agency with President Trump's priorities, including fighting drug cartels,» the publication reports.
The CIA became the first intelligence agency to offer severance pay to its employees. This will reduce the number of federal employees and cut costs. Laid-off employees will receive compensation that is nearly equal to eight months' salary and will have benefits as part of Trump's efforts regarding the reduction of the federal government.
John Ratcliffe, adviser to the CIA director, stated that the agency will stop hiring candidates who have already received an offer if they do not have the necessary experience, especially in countering China.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is also in a difficult situation as it is concerned about potential mass layoffs of its employees who are suspected of disloyalty to Trump. The Department of Justice is closely examining the role of FBI agents in the investigation of the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
