Bread for 50 Hryvnias: Ukrainians Warned about Record Price Surge.

The Director of the 'Millers of Ukraine' Union, Rodion Rybychynskyi, reported that Ukrainians have been warned about a possible sharp increase in bread prices, which could lead to a historical record. The main reason for this is the shortage of rye in the domestic market, noted the expert.
Reasons for Price Increase
According to the expert, the insufficient amount of rye in Ukrainian bakeries became the main reason for the sudden price hike. In the next two years, there may be a shortage of domestic rye, which will force bakers to switch to imported grain.
The root of the problem lies in the fact that Ukrainian farmers are reluctant to grow rye due to its lower yield compared to wheat, making it less attractive for them.
Prospects
It is noted that there is a possibility of improvement in the situation. The rise in rye prices may encourage farmers to increase its cultivation. By the 2026-2027 season, an increase in rye planting is forecasted, which will contribute to stabilizing the market situation.
It was also previously reported about the sudden increase in prices for young potatoes. However, according to experts' forecasts, the increase in bread prices could be beneficial by encouraging Ukrainian farmers to grow more rye and contributing to stabilizing the situation in the country.
The root of the problem with rising bread prices for Ukrainians lies in the shortage of rye in the domestic market, which stimulates bakers to switch to imported grain. However, a possible increase in rye planting in the next few years could change the market situation and lead to price stabilization.Read also
