Dryness threatens the Western Balkan region

The Western Balkan region is experiencing severe drought due to the African anticyclone. This leads to problems for local populations, agriculture, and electricity supply. Euronews reported this with reference to Glavkom.

In central Albania, temperatures have reached 40 degrees Celsius, and meteorologists warn that no rain is expected until September. Due to the lack of precipitation, rivers in the country have started to dry up, and the government is assisting farmers through irrigation. A project has also been launched to divert water from the Mati River to irrigate 40 square kilometers of agricultural land.

The Serbian State Meteorological Institute confirmed that 'extreme drought' is severely impacting harvests in the country, and water levels in rivers and lakes are rapidly falling.

Cities in Albania are also experiencing a lack of drinking water, leading to the closure of an open pool in Kosovo. Gërmia Park, where the pool is located, is known for its beauty and unique location among the mountains, which helps to ensure its water resources.

The Western Balkan region is under threat due to the prolonged dry weather, which has significantly affected agriculture and the lives of residents. The governments of the countries are taking measures to cope with the consequences of the unfavorable climatic phenomenon; however, the situation remains tense.
