Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni rejects the initiative of the United Kingdom and France regarding the sending of a military contingent to Ukraine
Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni expressed her negative stance on the initiative of the United Kingdom and France to send a military contingent to Ukraine. According to the Italian news agency ANSA, the Prime Minister emphasized that she categorically rejects the possibility of Italian military participation in such a mission.
'Sending Italian troops to Ukraine is a question that has never been on the agenda, just as we believe that the deployment of European troops, first proposed by Britain and France, is a very complex, risky, and ineffective option,' Meloni stressed.
Despite this, the Prime Minister expressed respect for the proposals of Western partners and thanked 'those who take responsibility for making proposals'. Previously, Macron announced the details of the peacekeeping mission in Ukraine without the consent of the Russian Federation.
