On the night of June 3, 2025, a drone attack occurred in the occupied territories of Melitopol and other seized areas of Zaporizhia and Kherson regions, causing a complete power outage. This strike also hindered the Russians' plans. This was reported by 'Hlavkom' citing Olga Kosharnaya, an expert in nuclear energy.
Analyst Olga Kosharnaya views this attack as an important strategic move, as it thwarted Russia's main goal - connecting the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant to the Russian energy system. According to her, while the occupiers tried to restore electricity supply to connect the plant to the Russian grid, they failed due to this operation. Kosharnaya emphasized that maintaining electricity supply for ZNPP from Ukraine is very important. As a result of the drone attack on the occupied territories, a large number of consumers in Zaporizhia and Kherson were disconnected. The forecast attack, which had great strategic significance, changed the Russians' plans to connect the nuclear power plant to the Russian energy grid. This is an important step in strategic defense and maintaining Ukraine's energy independence.According to the information from the occupation administration, over 600 thousand consumers in 457 settlements of Zaporizhia and 150 settlements of Kherson region were left without electricity. The strikes were aimed at key substations, ammunition depots, and the locations of Russian troops, resulting in damage to facilities used by the Russians.
