SBU employee leaked state secrets — what the court decided.


The senior investigator in particularly important cases of the SBU department in Chernivtsi region revealed classified data of the pre-trial investigation. The subject was initially dismissed from the position and later brought to criminal responsibility.
This is stated in the
verdictissued by the Shevchenkivsky District Court of Chernivtsi on July 8.
Case details
According to court materials, the accused, while working at the SBU, investigated a closed criminal case against the director of the 'Quartz Factory', who was accused of trading with Russia.
During secret operational measures, SBU agents recorded a conversation between the factory director and his Russian partner regarding financial matters. Later, during a meeting with the director, the accused confirmed that he possessed an audio recording of the conversation and even handed him gifts.
The final meeting in a cafe undermined the operational efficacy of the security service. Unfortunately, the agent betrayed secrets.
Court decision
In court, the accused denied his guilt, claiming that he was framed. Nevertheless, an expert confirmed the confidentiality of the materials he disclosed.
The court imposed a penalty in the form of a probation period as an alternative to imprisonment. Within a month, the accused may appeal this decision.
