Russia neglects repelling the AFU invasion in the Kursk region — NYT.

Western officials and military experts claim that the reason for Russia's failure to repel the invasion of their country lies not only in insufficient personnel and intelligence but also in the wrong choice of priorities. According to data from western officials and military experts, Russia planned to capture the city of Pokrovsk, which is an important logistics center in eastern Donbas, regardless of the offensive in Kursk, and was unwilling to withdraw troops from this section of the front.
According to officials and experts, the Russian troops that were in Kursk did not have enough numbers and experience for a quick defense organization when the AFU troops crossed the border. The defenders did not have enough weapons and equipment to resist the Ukrainian troops.
"It seems Moscow decided not to spend resources on fully repelling the invasion in a less strategically important area, especially because it forces Ukraine to spend its resources on holding the captured territory," said Colonel Markus Reisner, who oversees the development of the armed forces in Austria and monitors the war in Ukraine.
Some Russian military bloggers called on Moscow not to deploy significant forces to Kursk, as this could make Russia vulnerable in other areas, reports Dara Massicot, a senior researcher at the Carnegie Foundation.
