Latvia Bans the Use of Russian Language in ATMs
Latvia has passed a law banning the use of the Russian language in ATMs. Now, ATM interfaces must be set in Latvian and may also include official languages of EU and OECD countries. This was reported by Delfi.
This decision aims to ensure cash accessibility for all residents of Latvia, especially in a context where the number of bank branches and payment centers is decreasing.
Despite the growing popularity of cashless payments, cash remains an important component of the payment system, especially in crisis situations.
This initiative is part of Latvia's broader policy aimed at reducing Russia's influence and strengthening national identity. Previously, Latvia also banned the entry of vehicles registered in Belarus.
It should be reminded that Latvia will transfer armored vehicles purchased from the United Kingdom to Ukraine.
