Ukrainian combat pilot lands on the front page of The New York Times.

Ukrainian lieutenant impresses the American press
The popular American newspaper drew attention to Lieutenant Kateryna, who serves in the 18th Separate Brigade of Army Aviation. An article about the Ukrainian serviceman was printed on the front page. This was reported by the publication 'Glavkom'.
The central material tells the story of the military. According to Kateryna, she wanted to fly since childhood - when she first visited the airbase where her father served as an officer. After flying on a Mi-8 helicopter at the age of 10, she decided to become a pilot. At the age of 16, the girl enrolled at the Kharkiv National University of the Air Force named after Ivan Kozhedub, where she was the only woman.
In 2023, Kateryna joined the 18th Separate Brigade of Army Aviation, within which she began to carry out combat missions in September 2024. Since then, she has completed more than 30 combat sorties as the second pilot and navigator of the heavy Soviet Mi-8 helicopter.
The lieutenant shares that she rarely sees her family but dreams of flying her younger sister in the sky after the war ends.
Kateryna is the only woman serving as a combat pilot at the front-line helicopter base among dozens of men.
Success story of another serviceman
Another serviceman, Veronika, is a technician for the multi-role F-16 fighter. Her path to aviation began in childhood when she dreamed of becoming an officer while watching aircraft flights. After training at the Kharkiv National University of the Air Force, she became one of the first women to master technical specialties in aviation.
Recently, a woman from Poland became the first female pilot of the American-made F-16 fighter, opening new perspectives for women in the aviation industry.
