The Cabinet of Ministers approved the use of the new Latin-based Crimean Tatar spelling, which was approved by the National Commission on the Crimean Tatar Language. This decision is the result of long-term work since 2023 and corresponds to current language trends and the historical tradition of the Crimean Tatar language. Leading linguists, scientists, and representatives of the Crimean Tatar people worked on developing the spelling, including the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the O.O. Potebnia Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, and other specialists. The approved rules cover writing, teaching, use in media, literature, and toponymy and are recommended for application to all government bodies, including the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. This decision not only ensures the realization of the rights of the indigenous people of Ukraine but also supports intercultural dialogue in a multinational state. It is worth noting that the transition of the Crimean Tatar language to Latin script has been ongoing since Ukraine's independence and this process is now complete.
