Ukrainian gymnast Illya Kovtun helped the KTV Straubenhardt club to victory
In the final of the German Bundesliga in gymnastics, the KTV Straubenhardt club won against Wetzgau with a score of 48:11. Among all the gymnasts in the match, Illya Kovtun was the most productive, scoring a total of 12 points for his team.
In the bronze match, TG Saar defeated Eintracht Frankfurt with a score of 33:25.
In the photos posted by Kovtun's coach Irina Horbacheva after the competition, it is clear that the gymnast is no longer holding the Ukrainian flag. However, earlier, after the previous stages of the competitions, Illya posed with his national flag.
Illya Kovtun's prospects regarding changing sports citizenship
Illya Kovtun and his coach Irina Horbacheva are considering the possibility of changing sports citizenship. The young gymnast and his coach intend to continue competing for the Croatian national team. The final decision on this will be made by the end of the year.
It is well known that Kovtun and Horbacheva have been preparing for competitions in Croatia throughout 2024. After the Olympic Games, they did not return to Ukraine.
Illya Kovtun's sports achievements
Illya Kovtun became the silver medalist of the Olympics in Paris in the parallel bars. He also took fourth place in the individual all-around final and had a chance for a medal in the floor exercises, but he was unlucky. In addition, Kovtun is a holder of bronze and silver medals at the world championships in all-around. He also represented Ukraine at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
